Paul completes switch to Salford

Salford have completed the signing of Huddersfield half-back Robbie Paul on a two-year contract.

The 31-year-old former New Zealand star has agreed to join Shaun McRae's side in National League One.

He said: "I could have retired happily but I still have a hunger and passion for this game.

"The desire to bash people and be bashed is burning stronger than ever. It wasn't a big decision. This club has an exciting future."

He added: "There were a couple of other offers on the table but none that were right for me.

"I have always been part of a growing institution. The Bulls came from nothing and I like to think I've spent the last two years helping build some solid foundations at Huddersfield.

"I want to help return this club to its former glory."

Coach McRae said: "This is a statement of intent. Robbie shares the vision and the dream of this club, not just for next season but for where this club wants to be beyond 2008."

Paul's arrival is a huge boost to Salford, who have lost a string of players including Andy Coley, Luke Robinson and David Hodgson since their relegation from Super League.

Previously their only confirmed new signing for next year is Australian forward Craig Stapleton.

Since joining Huddersfield from Bradford in 2005, Paul has helped the Giants reach the 2006 Challenge Cup final and this season's play-offs.

He is one of a handful of players to have appeared in all 12 seasons of Super League and has made it clear he is not yet ready to hang up his boots.
