Jake Webster has scored 20 tries in 60 Super League appearances for Hull KR |
Hull KR centre Jake Webster is to undergo surgery on his hip which could mean him missing the rest the season. The former Kiwi international, who has struggled for weeks with the problem, is to go under the knife this week. "We had hoped that we could nurse him through until the end of the season," Robins coach Justin Morgan told BBC Radio Humberside. "But, after getting a scan, the specialist's advice is that Jake needs to have an operation." Webster made his comeback in the 24-6 win over Catalans Dragons on 6 June but limped out of the match and that has brought everything to a head. Morgan says the news of Webster's loss is a blow but that there is no alternative. "It's something that he's been carrying for some time," added Morgan. "And he's likely to be out for 10 to 12 weeks, so it's not great news for us." Webster is out of contract at the end of the season but negotiations for a new deal are well down the track. And the former New Zealand international, who signed from Queensland's Gold Coast Titans, is expected to be fully fit in time for the start of the 2012 Super League season.
