Hull FC discuss new Whiting deal

Richard Whiting

Hull FC utility back Richard Whiting has confirmed the club are in talks with him about a new deal.

Whiting, 24, is out of contract at the end of the season but told BBC Radio Humberside he is keen to extend his stay at the KC Stadium.

"Hopefully we're going to finalise something soon. This is my sixth year at Hull and I enjoy it here," he said.

"I want to stay here for a few more years, it's just sorting out something that suits myself and the club."

Whiting has endured a frustrating last 18 months with the Black and Whites. He broke his arm in a January friendly with Huddersfield ahead of the 2008 season and suffered a double fracture of the leg on his return at Harlequins five months later.

However, since his return to the side this season, Whiting has been one of the more consistent performers in a struggling Hull side.

I don't think Richard departing the club was ever an option

Hull FC coach Richard Agar

Coach Richard Agar has nothing but praise for the former Super League Young Player of the Year.

"He is sticking his hand up to say 'sign me on' - he wants to stay at the club," Agar told BBC Radio Humberside.

"Without any doubt he's forced his way back into the starting line-up with his performances. He's a player we've always held in high regard for his attitude, he's a model professional, fills a number of positions and has been a good club man as well.

"I don't think Richard departing the club was ever an option. We've obviously got other priorities with regards to signing and re-signing other people and Richard is still very much on that list."

Whiting arrived at the KC Stadium from Featherstone Rovers in 2003.

He has gone on to make over 100 appearances for the East Yorkshire club and was a try-scorer in the side that won the Challenge Cup final against the Leeds Rhinos in 2005.
