Whiting is nearing Hull FC return

Hull FC centre Richard Whiting is well on the road to recovery from his horrific double leg break last season, according to coach Richard Agar.

However, the 24-year-old will not be fit for the start of the upcoming Super League season.

Agar told BBC Radio Humberside: "It's been a long road back for him. The biggest challenge has been mentally.

"Training on your own and hours of rehab is hard and we're hoping his recovery now speeds up a little bit."

Whiting suffered a double fracture during the game against Harlequins at the Stoop last May but went on the club's pre-season training camp in Portugal last week and Agar says he was able to train with the rest of the players.

"We've seen in camp that he's been going about 75% and we've put him in some game situations and he's handled them OK," Agar added.

Whiting has been dogged by a succession of injuries since his switch from National League Featherstone Rovers as a 19-year-old, including a broken arm last January which kept him out for three months.
