New Huddersfield Giants signing David Fa'alogo is hopeful of being fit for the start of the Super League season.

The 28-year-old second-row forward is currently in rehab after undergoing a couple of close season operations.

"I've had a scope on my left knee and right ankle which was down to just wear and tear," he told BBC Radio Leeds.

"I'm pretty confident though that I'll be able to start the Super League season but that's all in good time and it's all I'm looking forward to."

Fa'alogo is expected to join his new team-mates for training in mid January and may play in one of the Giants' trial matches before their opening fixture at home to the Bradford Bulls on 5 February.

Fa'alogo, who spent six years with South Sydney Rabbitohs in the Australian NRL, says the chance to move to England came at just the right time.

"I needed a whole new challenge in life and in my football career. To have the opportunity to come over to England to do that was huge.

"I think I was getting too comfortable in Australia playing at one club for six years but it was just all about the right time and the perfect timing was now."

On meeting his new team mates Fa'alogo found himself looking up to one player in particular.

"Eorl Crabtree is just huge. I think he's the first bloke I've ever met that's that size. I've seen some big players but he's on his own.

"Mind you there's a lot of Englishmen who are big framed and tall. That's something I've got to now get used to."
