Chase played against England for New Zealand Maori in 2010 |
Castleford Tigers chief executive Richard Wright has rubbished rumours linking stand-off Rangi Chase with a move away from the Jungle. The 24-year-old New Zealander, who is contracted to Cas until 2013, had been reportedly lined up to move to Hull FC. But Wright said: "There have been no offers or communications from Hull, or any other club, regarding his services. "I spoke to Rangi at length. He's very happy and excited by the half-back partnership he now has with Danny Orr." Cas have already lost one player to Hull during the close season, goal-kicking loose forward Joe Westerman, while England centre Michael Shenton went to St Helens. But Terry Matterson's men have strengthened significantly in other areas. As well as Harlequins scrum-half Orr and Warrington full-back Richie Mathers, wingers Nick Youngquest (Crusaders) and Willie Isa (Melbourne Storm), Cas have also signed three forwards, St Helens duo Jake Emmitt and Nick Fozzard and Huddersfield's Martin Aspinwall. "We feel that the current squad is the strongest to have begun a season with us for many years," said Wright. "And Rangi is a central part of Terry's plans. "I am not sure where these rumours come from but we are all focused on the start of the season and we will not be distracted." Chase still has three seasons to run on the four-year contract extension he signed in August 2009.
