Wakefield Council has approved the transfer of land assets into the Castleford Tigers new stadium project.

The authority has identified sites, including the land where the town's swimming pool is, for a stadium with a pool possibly included.

A new company has now been setup to develop the stadium and the land assets will be transferred into this company in order to raise funding.

Tigers CEO Richard Wright said: "This is another very positive step."

He added: "We needed Wakefield Council to commit formally to helping us with the project, we needed to clarify the nature of their support, and we needed to determine the facilities they wished to be included in the stadium.

"They have done all three and we can now move forward to appointing architects.

"We are in contact with a number of architects and we can now finalise the design brief for them to consider and provide us with proposals.

"From there we will select one to work with and move towards a detailed design as soon as possible.

"The swimming pool will be part of that design and it will of course be open to the general public.

"This seven-day-a-week operation is a good addition to the stadium project."
