Reds run Broncos close
Dennis Moran
Dennis Moran grabbed a late try for London
London 26-19 Salford

London Broncos made hard work of consigning Salford to a fifth successive defeat in the capital.

The visitors held the upper hand for the majority of the game only to be denied by a late Broncos rally.

London opened the scoring after 10 minutes through a Tony Martin goal.

But the Reds hit back almost immediately however with Frances Maloney sending Stuart Reardon into the corner and Graham Holroyd kicking over.

The same combination almost added a second try moments later only for winger Reardon to knock on close to the line.

Holroyd then added two penalties in a minute as the Broncos lost their composure.

Good break

But they soon regained it with Russel Bawden crossing the line from dummy half following smart work from Jason Hetherington. Martin added the goal.

Salford further extended their lead right on half-time when stand-off Holroyd kicked a drop-goal.

The Broncos only needed 44 seconds to open their account in the second half when Michael Gillett crossed following a good break by Paul Sykes.

Martin was again successful with the goal. Hetherington had a 44th minute try disallowed before Steve Blakeley kicked a penalty.

Salford regained the lead after 61 minutes when loose forward Mick Wainwright collected his own kick-through to touch down with Blakeley adding the goal.

They looked to be heading for victory until French winger Sylvain Houles crossed the line from Martin's kick-through 11 minutes from time and Martin's goal gave his side a one-point lead.

Broncos talisman Dennis Moran went over two minutes later after catching the Reds cold close to their own line following another good Sykes break.

Martin added the goal and the Broncos remain in the running for a top six finish.
