Leaders Bulls stay on track
Scott Naylor of the Bradford Bulls, who scored two tries against Halifax
A sweet half-century for Naylor
Halifax 8-25 Bradford

Scott Naylor scored two tries as Bradford kept their Super League charge on track against struggling Halifax.

The Bulls centre scored his 50th try for the club, and added another to his tally, with Leon Pryce at the heart of both scores.

It was perhaps not as one-sided as the scoreline suggests, with the hosts putting up a valiant display.

Scrum-half Paul Deacon gave the Bulls a third-minute lead with a penalty, but Halifax, with just one win in their previous eight matches, matched the visitors in the opening exchanges.

A Lesley Vainikolo fumble gifted a 14th try of the season to Halifax centre Colum Halpenny.

Blue Sox youngster Liam Finn added the goal on his home debut but despite their best efforts the hosts just could not find a way through the cast-iron Bradford defence.

Deacon's second reduced the gap before the Bulls - who were missing injured skipper Robbie Paul - took control of the game.

Winger Danny Halliwell fumbled Deacon's high kick in the 22nd minute, the ball was moved quickly to the right where Pryce and Jamie Peacock created an overlap for Naylor's first score.

The brilliant Pryce increased the Bulls lead 10 minutes later with an opportunistic try, throwing a quick dummy which caught four home defenders flat-footed.

With an ounce of luck we could have won this game but we need all the points we can get

Deacon extended the visitors' lead with a goal and Halifax then suffered a double blow with four minutes of the half remaining.

Hooker Johnny Lawless was sin-binned for infringing at the play of the ball and Halpenny had to be helped from the field with a nasty looking arm injury.

When an opportunity arose to reduce the deficit, Sox substitute Ryan Clayton failed to ground the ball properly following another fumble by the hapless Vainikolo.

Finn's penalty reduced the gap but it was Bradford who finished the stronger in the torrential rain.

Naylor went in for his second after Pryce had slipped through Jason Flowers' weak tackle and Deacon's goal ensured the points were going to Bradford.

Deacon added a drop goal on 75 minutes and then Nathan McAvoy went over in the corner for a late try which made it six wins out of six for Bradford.
