Broncos overcome Warrington
London's Steele Retchless

London 30-18 Warrington

London Broncos recorded a hard-fought victory over the Warrington Wolves at sweltering Carcassonne.

Stifling temperatures of over 100F meant that the pace of the game was slow.

Lee Briers put the visitors into an early lead when he was obstructed as he chased a kick and converted the penalty himself.

The heat was strength-sapping...my players didn't have the energy after about 10 minutes
Warrington coach David Plange

London equalised three minutes later through a penalty from Tony Martin.

They then took a lead which they never relinquished in the 13th minute when Jim Dymock went over for a try following good work from Martin and Dennis Moran.

The scrum-half then produced a magnificent 95-metre break to score to make it 14-2 just before the half-hour mark.

Then Ben Westwood reduced the arrears before half-time with a try following Sid Domic's pass, but London scored soon after the break to stretch the lead to 14 points, Nigel Roy capitalising on an error by Rob Smyth.

It was hot...but I'm really proud of the way the boys handled it
Broncos coach Tony Rea

After 54 minutes some nifty footwork from Briers brought in a fine try.

Just after the first quarter break Steve Hall went over in the corner and although the try was not converted the Wolves had a mountain to climb.

Westwood scored his second try with 14 minutes remaining but that was as good as it got for the Wolves.

With six minutes on the clock Paul Sykes went on a lung-bursting run of 80 metres down the right wing to settle any London nerves.
