York City Knights have signed winger or full-back Tom Bush from Leeds Rhinos. The 20-year-old made four first-team appearances in 2010 and he scored a try on his debut against Harlequins. Knights general manager Ian Wilson told BBC Radio York: "We see him as a bit of a better standard than your under-20's player who's maybe not been anywhere near the first team. "To play four times shows you've got some ability otherwise the coaching staff wouldn't call upon you again." Wilson added: "We're pleased to get him on board. He'll give us options on the wing and at full-back where he's comfortable in both." | We want people to work hard, want to learn and want to improve and he fits the bill really |
Bush had been at Leeds Rhinos for three years where Wilson said he was highly rated. "He's too old for the under-20's next year as he turns 21 in January. "I think Leeds saw him more predominantly as a full-back and they've got Brent Webb in front of him and Ben Jones-Bishop coming back from Harlequins after spending a year on loan there so his first team opportunities will have been limited. "I think they think he maybe lacks a yard of pace to play on the wing in the Super League but that's not to say that he couldn't play on the wing in The Championship. "They've give us some good feedback on him saying he's got a great attitude, great work rate and one of the nicest lads you'll meet which from a culture point of view at this club is what we're creating. "We want people to work hard, want to learn and want to improve and he fits the bill really."
