Dave Woods took over as coach of the Knights in June |
Newly-promoted York City Knights have signed Castleford Tigers reserve grade player Sam Lynch. The young Cas full-back, who can also play on the wing, becomes the Knights' latest addition following last month's promotion to the Championship. "He was keen to come so we signed him," coach Dave Woods told BBC Radio York. "He's supposed to have a bit about him footy wise. Full back is primarily his position but he can play on the wing and is supposed to be quite exciting." Woods added: "He's been at Castleford for a while now and it looked like they were going to keep him in their squad and send him out on loan. | I'm just trying to put together a good competitive squad |
"They asked if we'd be interested and we said yes. Then they had another meeting there at Castleford and they decided to release him." After bringing in Lynch on a one-year deal, the Knights are also reported to be lining up a move for another player released by Cas, back row forward Ryan Clayton. But former Cas coach Woods, who spent a year at Wheldon Road in 2005, insists that he is taking his time as he looks for the right players. "We've had players contact us about wanting to come," he said. "They've said they've heard good things about the club. "I'm just trying to put together a good competitive squad. We're not being silly about things. We're not just going out and signing players for the sake of it. We're making sure we do things for the right reasons."
