York City Knights have said they are open to offers for winger Wayne McHugh and forward Danny Ekis. McHugh joined the Knights at the start of the season while Ekis is in his second year with the club. Coach James Ratcliffe told BBC Radio York: "We're open to offers for Wayne McHugh. Basically it's not worked out as Wayne wanted it. "We've released Danny but we still hold his registration and we're just waiting for a club to speak to us about him." Ekis has only played for the Knights reserves since he served a six-match ban which began in April. McHugh moved to the Knights from Featherstone but injuries have disrupted his season. Ratcliffe said: "He's not prepared to do what we wanted him to do either. So there's no hard feelings between us, it hasn't worked out and it's time for him may be to move on again. | I need to make some hard decisions and that means upsetting some people for the benefit of others but that's what I get paid to do |
"We took a punt on him and he enjoyed it to an extent and now he doesn't so there's no point keeping anyone who doesn't want to be here." Despite releasing the pair Ratcliffe said it is unlikely that anyone would be coming in to the club. "Not at this moment in time. We've got a couple of weeks yet but we've got to be careful of how many people we do bring in. "We don't want to upset the aura that we've got around the team too much and we can't forget that the guys that are here now got us into this position so we've got to be a bit loyal to them. "But we've also got to have in mind that we're here for a common goal and that's to get promotion. "We need to be tough, we need to be strong and I need to make some hard decisions and that means upsetting some people for the benefit of others but that's what I get paid to do."
