McCormack coached Scotland against France in the 2008 World Cup
Gateshead head coach Steve McCormack believes his side know exactly what to expect from Championship surprise package Toulouse on Sunday.
After losing their first three games Toulouse have won five of the last six and McCormack admitted the French side have adjusted well to the standard.
"They're a pretty formidable side," he told BBC Newcastle.
"They got their backsides walloped against Widnes but since then they've competed with everyone they've played."
Thunder have some inside knowledge on their Gallic opponents, as the former Pia trio of Nick Youngquest, Paul Franze and Kris Kahler and ex-Carcassone half-back Russ Aitken all have experience against Toulouse in the French Championship.
And McCormack has ensured his side have as much information as possible on their Gallic opponents.
"Russ Aitken knows their half-back Nathan Wynn, he's a good player and we spoke with a few of the players who have played in France for a little bit of insight," he said.
"I coached against France in the World Cup [with Scotland] and there are a couple of players who played in that competition playing for Toulouse.
"But the main focus is on what we do and we're pretty confident that if we put on a good performance then we'll get the points."
Full commentary of Thunder v Toulouse can be heard on bbc.co.uk/tyne from 1445 BST on Sunday, 7 June.
