Widnes Vikings have confirmed they have beaten many other clubs to the signing of Hull half-back James Webster. The 29-year-old moves following spells with both Hull and Hull KR and was believed to be wanted by both Super League and National League sides. "He has been a stand-out player for Hull KR over the years," said sporting director Terry O'Connor. "Hopefully he can bring that form and professionalism to the club and take us to the next level." "James is a terrific player and is somebody I have had in mind for a number of years. He is a proven performer at the top level, a natural leader and is an outstanding signing for the club ". Webster is looking forward to playing at the Stobart Stadium next season and says meting McCormack was a big factor in the move. "I'm really excited about the move. I met Steve McCormack and Steve O'Connor yesterday and was really impressed with their plans for the future. "All the clubs I have spoken to had some good points to offer but Widnes was the best."
