Widnes Vikings have confirmed the permanent signing of prop forward Ben Kavanagh on a three-year contract.

The 20-year-old, who can also operate as a second row, scored two tries in 21 appearances last season.

"I'm pleased that Ben has agreed to commit his future to the Vikings until the end of 2011," said Vikings' sporting director Terry O'Conner.

"He is a talented rugby league player and has the potential to play at the highest level."

O'Conner believes Kavanagh has a bright future ahead of him at the club and he can only benefit his good run in the side last season.

"As a prop forward there was a lot of expectation on his shoulders, especially at such a young age.

"As the season progressed he grew in confidence and stature and this will stand him in good stead for the forthcoming season.

"In my opinion the front row is one of the toughest positions in the sport of rugby league.

"Ben has all the right attributes to become a Super League player and that is what we are building for at Widnes."

Kavanagh says he is delighted to have signed for the club and hopes to show his worth to the team.

"I'm really pleased to be at Widnes for the next three years," he said.

"It's going to be an exciting time at the club and I'm looking forward to being part of it."
