Knights edged out of thriller

York City Knights

York City Knights assistant coach James Ratcliffe said there were a lot of positives to take from the 34-32 defeat at Doncaster.

The Knights would have drawn, but Adam Mitchell hit a post with a last-gasp conversion in the National Two game.

Ratcliffe told BBC Radio York: "We'll take a lot of positives out of it.

"We need to be a bit more disciplined in our approach in the business end of the park and a bit more mature in how we do things."

He continued: "We need to just realise we're not going to score every time we get up there."

"We're absolutely gutted - gutted for the boys.

"They're pretty down but we've got to get back on the horse for next week's game against Rochdale."

However Ratcliffe admitted it had probably been one of the best games of the season in the division.

From a spectator's point of view it must have been an absolute cracker to watch

"There's been no foul play in there from either side. We can both play a bit of football and it's shown that. From a spectator's point of view it must have been an absolute cracker to watch."

The result meant the Knights are now likely to finish in sixth place in the table even if they lose their next game at home to Rochdale.

Ratcliffe said there was also good news about David March who left the pitch in the second half of the match.

"It was just the pace of the game. He cramped up with 10 minutes to go. He saw we needed to get everybody back out there, big game players, and Dave had a quick rub and went back out there.

"That's the kind of guy he is. It's been a very fast game."
