Jersey's Ian Black failed to make a final at the Telstra Australian Swimming Championships in Sydney.

Black, who has already qualified for the Commonwealth Games, finished 12th fastest in the 400m individual medley in four minutes 33.76 seconds.

That was four seconds slower than his qualifying time for the Games in Delhi.

Black, who is working with a coach at the City of Perth club, was 22nd in the 200m breaststroke preliminaries, in a time of 2:25.35.

At the 2009 Island Games, in Aland, Black won nine medals, four of them gold, and set four new Jersey and five Island Games records in various events.
