Emily Bashforth claimed two Jersey records with one swim in Sheffield |
AIB Tigers swimmer Emily Bashforth broke two Jersey records in the pool in Sheffield on Friday. In the 1500m freestyle, the 13-year-old finished in 18 minutes 7.12 seconds. The time claimed the Jersey senior and junior records and her first National qualifying time. Tigers coach Nathan Jegou said: "Emily chose not to travel to the Jeux des Isles so she could compete in Sheffield and I'm glad she proved that it was the correct decision." | It's a fantastic result and just reward for the hard training she does week in week out |
Bashforth has shown great form in training and Jegou was not surprised by her National qualifying time. "Emily went under the qualifying time for Nationals by 30 seconds. It's a fantastic result and just reward for the hard training she does week-in week-out." There was more good news for the Tigers swimmers in Sheffield with 13-year-old Henry Job becoming the Tigers' 12th swimmer to claim a national qualifying time for 2009. In the 100m freestyle on Saturday morning, Job broke the one-minute barrier to finish in a time of 59.47 seconds. "It's great for Henry, he was pretty sick back in January, so to come back and make Nationals shows his determination," Jegou said.
