Daniel Harrison won his two matches on day one of the Jeux des Iles |
There were mixed results for Jersey's tennis players on the opening day of the Jeux des Iles in Majorca. The boys eased to an easy 3-0 win in their match against Korcula. Scott Clayton and Daniel Harrison both won their singles matches 6-0 6-0 before Harrison and Stephen Le Cornu won the doubles rubber 6-1 6-1. But there was disappointment for the Jersey girls pairing of Octavia Lamb and Audrey Bois, who lost 3-0 against hosts Majorca. Lamb lost her singles rubber 6-1 6-4, while Bois claimed the second set in her match but was eventually edged out in a third-set tie break decider, going down 6-0 3-6 10-4. They then lost 6-1 6-1 in their doubles match. Coach Andrew Evans felt a bit sorry for the girls: "It's a bit unfortunate to be drawn against the host island. "That being said the girls did really well and and made a match of it." The boys now take on top seeds Sicily. Jersey's other competitors are all in action Friday, with credible medal prospects in the pool and on the athletics track.
