John Higgins set to play in World Series of Snooker |
Two-time snooker world champions John Higgins says the line-up for the World Snooker Championships is impressive. Higgins told BBC Radio Jersey: "It's a great line-up we've got, they're all fully behind the event and everyone's working hard to make it a success." Playing alongside Higgins is Shaun Murphy the 2005 World Champion, 1997 World Champion Kevin Doherty and 2007 runner-up Mark Selby. They will be up against Jersey's best including Aaron Canavan. Higgins said: "We're going to try and bring a bit of Rocky Balboa to the sport, we're giving these people a chance to play some of the best players in the world." "If we were playing any other sport, you wouldn't get the chance to do this (amateurs playing professionals), but this is why we're trying to bring something different." Jersey's Gary Britton will face Ken Doherty at 1330 BST on Saturday, while Aaron Canavan will face Higgins in the last match of the evening. The event will be shown live on Eurosport this Saturday and Sunday nights to 59 countries around the world. Higgins is looking forward to playing again as he is a bit rusty after not practicing much since the birth of his daughter 10 days ago.
