Aaron Canavan takes on John Higgins in the World Series of Snooker |
Jersey snooker ace Aaron Canavan faces two-time world champion John Higgins Saturday night in the opening round of the new World Series of Snooker. The match, to be broadcast live, has the possibility of attracting millions of viewers but Canavan says he is not feeling nervous. He told BBC Jersey: "You've got to put that out of your mind, you've got to concentrate and get into a zone." Jersey is the first of four venues in Europe to host the event. It then goes to Moscow in July, Amsterdam in September and Warsaw in October before the Grand Final at a still undisclosed location. | World Series of Snooker Saturday Line-up 11:15 Mark Selby v Rafal Jewtuch 1:30 Ken Doherty v Gary Britton 5:00 Shaun Murphy v Martyn Desperques 7:30 John Higgins v Aaron Canavan |
The aim of the competition is to pit the best players of the world against some of the best local players and Canavan is excited about playing Higgins. Canavan added: "It's the equivalent of Tiger Woods coming to play 18 holes against the Jersey champion of golf, it's a big thing to happen." "It doesn't happen everyday, you know there's thousands of snooker players that would pay a lot of money to be in the position I'm in at the moment."
