Guernsey Captain Adam Shorto took the deciding frame

Guernsey took an extra-frame decider to clinch the Snooker Inter-insular 6-5 against Jersey on Saturday.

At 5-5 captain Adam Shorto faced his Jersey opposite number Gary Britton to decide the 60th island clash.

Shorto played a near perfect final frame after being given an early chance when Britton unluckily potted the black in attempting a safety shot.

It was gone 0100BST when Jersey captain Britton, needing several snookers, conceded defeat.

Both captains led from the front with Shorto taking two frames off Karl Softly while Britton, the three times Channel Island champion, took two from Glenn Le Prevost.

The new Channel Island champion Jersey's Aaron Canavan took the first frame but Guernsey's Adrian Lihou squared the match in only 14 minutes, with Canavan's sole points coming from a foul.

Jersey's Ray Kilmartin got the better of Graham Peel in a low scoring seventh frame and the writing looked on the wall when the Jersey left-hander built a 46-0 lead in the next.

But Peel slowly clawed his way back with a remarkable comeback to level it again.

Guernsey's John Skillett and Jersey's Chris Alexander also could not be separated leading to the extra frame decider.

Held the same night was the Channel Island Billiards Championship with Jersey's Gary Britton demonstrating all the skills that have seen him win the CI Billiards championship on three occasions to take the trophy for a fourth time.
