Speer joins Vipers with an impressive scoring record |
Newcastle Vipers' new signing Dan Speer has revealed coach Danny Stewart was the reason behind his move to Tyneside from Lakehead University in Canada. Speer, 25, becomes the second signing from the Canadian university scene this summer following the arrival of Dale Mahovsky in June. "I liked the first impression I got from coach Danny Stewart," Speer said. "He has made me feel very comfortable about leaving home and moving to the United Kingdom." Stewart is delighted to have signed yet another forward as he strengthens his squad for the forthcoming campaign. "Dan has shown offensive talent throughout his college career at Lakehead University," he said. | I also know I have the ability to make an impact on the team especially in terms of the offence. |
"His third season in college he finished fourth in the country in scoring which shows how capable he is of putting up numbers. "He brings us versatility in that he can play wing and centre, has good size and most importantly is another offensive threat." New signing Speer, who netted 199 points in his university career, is confident he can make an impression on Tyneside. "Being in Newcastle with a group of character guys will also help the transition," Speer continued. "I also know I have the ability to make an impact on the team especially in terms of the offence. "I am grateful for this opportunity and extremely excited to get to Newcastle and get the season going."
