Canadian forward Ian McDonald has signed a contract with the Nottingham Panthers for the 2010/11 season.

The 25-year-old joins straight from college after playing four years with the University of Alberta.

Panthers coach Corey Neilson said: "Some of the scouting reports on this guy have been fantastic.

"One coach even likened him to NHL star Joe Thornton. If he's even close to that we know we will have added another winner to the roster."

After the recent signing of fellow Canadian Dustin Sproat and the return of Great Britain international Matthew Myers, Neilson has now completed his forward line-up.

"I love the idea of being able to go hard and fast at opposition teams and with four sets of wingers we'll be able to wear down even the strongest of opponents," he added.

McDonald said: "Like others before me, I was told Nottingham was the place to be in the UK and I'm very excited to be joining the Panthers organisation."
