Parrish is hoping to win an eighth successive league title |
Invicta Dynamos coach Kevin Parrish says their seventh successive league title means as much as the first. The Medway side secured the English National Ice Hockey League South Division crown with a 5-2 victory over the Isle of Wight Raiders on Saturday. "This one feels sweet," Parrish told BBC Radio Kent. "It's probably as good as the first one I got, perhaps more satisfying because it was a tough season, a tough run-in with teams pushing us all the way." He added: "We had a couple of slip-ups but we were lucky enough that other teams had slip-ups at the same time. | It's the first time we're not going into the play-offs as favourites so that will take the pressure off us Invicta Dynamos coach Kevin Parrish |
"I think they always feel good but this is especially good because of how tough it was." Parrish praised his squad and said: "It's one of the easiest I've had to work with. We've had a couple of injuries but everyone just got on with the job. "It's the first time we're not going into the play-offs as favourites so that will take the pressure off us. "As a coach I always look forward to pitting myself against the best teams." Parrish believes the thrilling finale to the ice hockey competition at the Winter Olympics in Vancouver raised the profile of sport. He said: "Since then attendances at our novice sessions have gone up with lots of youngsters wanting to learn about the sport."
