Coventry Blaze restore five-point Elite League lead
Luke Fulghum scores his 41st of the season against Sheffield Steelers
Coventry Blaze beat Sheffield Steelers 5-1 to restore their five-point cushion at the top of the Elite League.
The top three teams all won and lost at the weekend, with Blaze beaten 2-1 away to Belfast Giants on Saturday.
Coventry Blaze coach Paul Thompson told BBC Coventry & Warwickshire: "Everybody had a great game tonight.
"There's still a long way to go and we just need to keep applying ourselves as we did tonight. We've just got to control what we do and how we play."
Second-placed Nottingham Panthers lost to the Sheffield Steelers on Saturday but then beat the Giants the following day.
The results ensured Coventry remain top of the table with a game in hand on second-placed Belfast and two more to play than third-placed Panthers, with both sides level on 47 points.
Luke Fulghum put Blaze ahead in front of their home supporters on Sunday with Greg Owen doubling the lead before the first break.
Derek Campbell nudged Paul Thompson's men further ahead in the second before Joey Talbot pulled one back for Sheffield.
A rare Tom Watkins' effort in the third put Blaze firmly in the driving seat with Owen doubling his tally with less than two minutes left on the clock.
However Greg Chambers was forced to limp off the ice and will have an x-ray on his ankle to assess the extent of the injury.
Thompson added: "[Chambers] is worth his admission money alone when he's in that kind of form.
"He's gone off with an injury and we don't know if it's a broken ankle or a sprained ankle so we're going to take him for x-rays.
"He's going to be a big miss if he's out of the line up but it just means everyone else has got to step it up."
