Thompson aims to reclaim top spot in the fixtures against the Giants |
Coventry Blaze head coach Paul Thompson hopes to bring in new faces to bolster their chances of winning the Elite League title. Coventry were knocked off top spot after losing 6-4 to Sheffield Steelers at the Skydome Arena. They now turn their attention to two huge games at the weekend which could define their season. They face a double header against leaders Belfast Giants away on Sunday and at the Skydome Arena on Monday. Thompson told BBC Coventry & Warwickshire: "I cannot keep asking Jonathon Weaver to play 40 minutes a game, it is taking its toll on the squad and we are in a state where we need to get ourselves going". Suspension and injuries have also been a concern to Thompson. Greg Owen has been absent following surgery to remove his appendix and and Tom Watkins were missed out with strained knee ligaments while Derek Campbell was suspended. "I need to bring in a couple of guys into the line up, Aaron Nell will be with us at Belfast because next weekend is a massive one for us," Thompson added.
