Man-of-the-match Dan Carlson could not prevent Blaze losing to the Steelers |
Coventry have been replaced at the top of the Elite League following Sunday's 6-4 defeat by Sheffield Steelers. A depleted Blaze side won 4-3 away at Cardiff Devils on Saturday but could not replicate victory when they returned to the Skydome. Russ Cowley gave Blaze the lead with the only goal of the opening period but the hosts were stung by three strikes in the second. Jeff Legue levelled the scores before Robert Dowd and Legue again netted. Greg Chambers pulled one back for Coventry only to see Joey Talbot restore the visitors' two-goal cushion. Blaze scored next through Brian Lee before Legue sealed his hat-trick and Dowd scored his second. Adam Calder completed the scoring but it was not enough for Coventry, who now lie a point behind Belfast Giants with two games in hand. On Saturday, Dan Carlson scored twice in the win in Wales, with Derek Campbell and Chambers also getting in on the scoring action. Campbell was ejected from the game for fighting with Cardiff's Brad Voth and was suspended for the Sheffield game.
