It has been a brutal month, but things could be a lot worse
Danny Meyers
Nottingham Panthers captain Danny Meyers says his side are fully aware of the pressure they are under after their poor recent run of form.
Panthers have lost five of their last eight games and could be overtaken at the top of the Elite League if other sides win their games in hand.
Meyers told BBC Radio Nottingham: "We know the nature of the beast and it's up to the players to respond.
"Five defeats in eight games is clearly not good enough."
Last Sunday's defeat against Edinburgh sparked a furious reaction from player-coach Corey Neilson, who threatened to make changes if results and performances did not improve.
Meyers, who is in his fourth season with the Panthers, added: "As a player we know the coaches are not happy and it's inevitable that if you're not pulling your weight then changes could be made - every guy knows that.
"If things aren't going to improve then things could change.
"We are very privileged to play here in Nottingham and it's a place that will not settle for mediocrity."
However Meyers said the prospect of a home game against fierce rivals Sheffield Steelers on Saturday was the perfect way to get their season back on track.
"I'm really excited that we are playing Sheffield," Meyers said. "It is exactly what we need - it's an inspiring game.
"It has been a brutal month but things could be a lot worse. I'm not trying to paper over the cracks, I do realise there are things we need to work on but it's not like we're the worst team over.
"We're trying to turn around our fortunes and hopefully that can start on Saturday."
