Neilson vows to punish Panthers

Corey Nielson
Nielson's side have stuttered in recent weeks

Coach Corey Neilson was furious after seeing Nottingham Panthers suffer a 5-4 defeat against Edinburgh on Sunday.

The away reverse was Panthers' fifth defeat in eight games and Neilson laid into his side after the game.

He told BBC Radio Nottingham: "I'm not here to make friends, I'm here to make tough decisions. If they don't want to work for 60 minutes I'll punish them.

"There's a whole bunch of things we can do and we're going to improve. It was just not good enough."

Goals from Sean McAslan, Kevin Bergin, Dominic D'Amour and Cameron Mann were not enough to save Panthers but they still remain top of the Elite League.

A lot of guys have a lot more to offer and some selfishness has crept in and that's something I don't like

Neilson added: "I'm shocked and appalled. It was a comedy of errors at the end.

"Everyone is trying so hard and they get so desperate, which is not always a bad thing, but it just got stupid, and stupid is never good.

"I have to choose my words very carefully at the moment. I think a lot of guys have a lot more to offer and some selfishness has crept in and that's something I don't like.

"In the third period we were dominant and the guys did their thing.

"The first period was maybe bus legs and I'll try to support the players when I can but the second period... we need to work and commit and be the players that we trusted them to be when they came.

"We're not panicking at this point but I'll be thinking about our options this week."
