Ryan Williams smashed home a stunning injury-time volley to salvage a draw for promotion-chasing Mansfield and cruelly deny Histon a superb away win.
An open first half saw chances aplenty at both ends.
But Histon looked set to grab the win when Josh Simpson scored from the spot after Stags keeper Alan Marriott fouled John Kennedy after 83 minutes.
However Williams crashed in a deserved leveller from 25 yards when a long throw was only half-cleared.
The 94th-minute goal keeps the Stags in fourth spot in the Blue Square Premier but they will feel like a draw is the least their display merited.
The home side had the better chances in an open first period in which defenders Luke Jones and Scott Garner both had headers cleared off the line.
At the other end Marriot made a fine reaction save from Nat Knight-Percival and Adam Tann saw a looping header hit the post.
