Jonathan Phillips has agreed a new one-year contract with league and play-off champions Sheffield Steelers.

The 26-year-old Great Britain international joined the Steelers from hometown club Cardiff in 2006.

Philips told BBC Radio Sheffield: "We went out on a high this year with two trophies and next year we've got to be trying for the three."

"Jono is our leader, he is a reason why we win here in Sheffield," added Steelers head coach Dave Matsos.

Phillips becomes the third player to commit himself to the Steelers for the 2009/10 season, following fellow forward Robert Dowd and defenceman Scott Basiuk.
