Munn's current deal with the Steelers has expired

Sheffield Steelers defenceman Steve Munn is to have an operation to cure a long-standing knee problem.

The 30-year-old has been playing through the pain barrier and it is hoped that the surgery will allow him to play pain-free.

However Munn's future with the Steelers is yet to be resolved.

His current deal with the Steelers has expired and he is understood to be considering offers from several European sides.

In the meantime the Saskatchewen native will remain in South Yorkshire until he has completed a masters course at Sheffield University.
