David Clarke, Danny Meyers, Matthew Myers & Mark Richardson win bronze |
Nottingham Panthers defenceman Danny Meyers says winning a bronze medal with Great Britain is one of the highlights of his career. Meyers and fellow Panthers players David Clarke, Matthew Myers and Mark Richardson helped GB finish third in Poland in the World Championships 1A. The former Bracknell man told BBC Radio Nottingham: "It's a magical feeling to come back with a bronze medal. "Everyone worked so hard and it's great to end the season on a high." Great Britain took the bronze in dramatic fashion beating the hosts Poland 2-1 with an overtime goal from former Panther Ashley Tait. Meyers added: "This GB squad has been getting better and better over the years and this medal proves we are going in the right direction. "Our aim now is to be challenging for the gold medal and promotion to the Elite Division." Meyers and Clarke scored in GB's opening game 4-2 defeat by Ukraine. Paul Thompson's men then lost 5-2 to Italy, who won all their matches in the tournament to gain promotion to the Elite Division. Clarke scored twice in the 8-0 thrashing of Romania with Myers also on the scoresheet, and GB's 3-2 victory over Holland set-up the bronze medal decider with the Poles.
