FRIENDS PROVIDENT TROPHY GROUP A, Trent Bridge Nottinghamshire 159-2 beat Leicestershire 155 by eight wickets (Notts 2pts, Leics 0pts)
Swann has taken over from Monty Panesar as England's lead spinner |
England spinner Graeme Swann made a successful return from an elbow operation as Nottinghamshire swept aside Leicestershire on Sunday. Swann, who missed England's one-day series in the West Indies, looked in top form, taking 3-23 as the Foxes made just 155 in the FP Trophy. Opener Mark Wagh then hit an unbeaten 68 and put on 106 with youngster Alex Hales as Notts won by eight wickets. Hales made a fine 52 in his first innings for the county. Leicestershire were beaten with 20 overs to spare at Trent Bridge after only James Taylor had offered any resistance for the visitors, making 44 not out. Swann, 30, came on to bowl in the 26th over and was greeted by the sight of Taylor reverse-sweeping him for four. But the England man soon struck with the key wicket of Paul Nixon, who swept a ball onto his stumps, before Jacques du Toit top-edged a sweep for a simple looping catch to wicketkeeper Chris Read.
