Great Britain shocked the Netherlands 3-2 to keep alive their hopes of a World Championship medal.

The momentum that saw them beat Romania 8-0 on Tuesday continued as Phil Hill, David Longstaff and Ashley Tait fired Britain into a 3-0 first-period lead.

Two goals by Jamie Schaafsma ensured a nervous finale but Sheffield netminder Jody Lehman made several outstanding saves to help Britain hold on.

Team GB play hosts Poland on Friday in their final Division One Group B game.

They previously lost to group favourites Ukraine and Italy in their first two group games.

Meanwhile, in the Women's World Championship Division II in Italy, Great Britain's gold medal hopes suffered a blow as they were beaten 3-0 by favourites Latvia, who are now firmly on course to win the group.

Iveta Koka (2) and Ieva Petersone were on target.

Their final game - against North Korea - takes place on Saturday, and is likely to decide the silver medal position.
