Verner (left) and Lundin have been called up for the North All-Stars |
Newcastle Vipers netminder Andrew Verner and defenceman Jez Lundin have been called up to the North All-Stars squad by team manager Dave Matsos. The duo will feature in a match that pits the best of the North against their Southern counterparts at Coventry Skydome on Thursday, 19 February. A Vipers club spokesman said: "Andrew and Jez are fully deserving of their All-Star call up. "They will represent the North and Newcastle with pride." The team will be selected from players at Edinburgh, Belfast, Manchester, Sheffield and Newcastle. Each team will supply two imports and two British members to form a 20-man squad. Verner, 36, joined the Vipers from Austrian outfit Klagenfurter Athletiksport-Club at the beginning of the season and has kept three clean sheets so far this season. Lundin, 20, is one of the club's most promising talents and received a Great Britain call-up in 2008 for his displays in the Vipers' rearguard.
