Newcastle Vipers have parted company with Canadian forward Todd Griffith after the 23-year-old requested to return to North America.

Griffith made his final appearance in Sunday's quarter-final win at Edinburgh and general manager Jamie Longmuir admitted his departure is a blow.

"We are very disappointed to lose Todd, but understand his reasons," he said.

"He has some opportunities in North America, and will be closer to his family."

Griffith joined Vipers from South Carolina Stingrays in the American East Coast Hockey League in August 2008.
