Hayman hopeful for Falcons future

Hayman keen on Falcons stay

Newcastle Falcons prop Carl Hayman has told supporters he is keen to remain with the club next season, if they can improve their Premiership form.

Hayman has enjoyed his time at Kingston Park but has called for a big improvement in the club's fortunes if he is to commit beyond this season.

"If we get relegated to Division One, then I've got some serious decisions to make," he told BBC Radio Newcastle.

"Ideally I'd love to stay but as a club we've got a lot to turn around."

Hayman, regarded by some as the finest tighthead prop in world rugby, arrived at Kingston Park to a fanfare of media and sporting interest in December 2007 following his debut in a 24-6 EDF Energy Cup defeat by Wasps.

And the powerhouse, who with 46 caps was the 1000th All Black, admitted it has been difficult to take being involved in a side struggling for success.

606: DEBATE

"You play to win, and you play to be successful, and that hasn't been the case for us of late," he said.

"The encouraging thing is that what we do about it is in our hands. Everyone in their career goes through a stage like this, where the team doesn't do so well.

"It gets frustrating at times, it's sort of like we've gone backwards a bit, it hasn't been helpful losing some of the guys.

"We've got to keep looking forward to the week after and hopefully the results will come."
