Wilson expects to see a tough battle on the ice against Belfast |
Newcastle Vipers head coach Rob Wilson has warned Belfast Giants to expect a physical battle when they arrive at the Arena for a weekend double-header. Giants tore Vipers apart in Belfast a week ago with an 8-2 victory but Wilson is confident his players can avenge their disappointment on Saturday. "We are not going to be dirty or do anything stupid," he said. "We are going to play an honest, hard physical game and get right into the faces of the Giants." Before the two teams take to the ice there will be the official retirement of the Vipers' number eight jersey, which was worn by former star Shaun Johnson. | Only special players have the honour of having their number retired Vipers head coach Rob Wilson |
Johnson also played for Durham Wasps during his career and Wilson said he is delighted to be able to pay tribute to the 34-year-old. "Shaun has been a great servant to ice hockey in the North East and it has been an honour to play with and coach with greatest guys I know in ice hockey." "Only special players have the honour of having their number retired, it has only been done once in Newcastle ice hockey history and this is the first for the Vipers era."
