Steve Thornton was on target in the easy win for the Giants

The Giants hold a commanding lead after the first leg of the British National Cup clash in Dundonald.

Evan Cheverie put Belfast in front at the end of the first period before Paul Deniset and Steve Thornton made it 3-0.

Mike Burgoyne added the fourth goal and Cheverie completed his double as the homeside dominated.

Dan Carlson scored a late consolation for Coventry but his team face a huge task if they are to upset the Giants in the return leg on Wednesday night.
