Richard Fahey saddled more than 100 winners in 2008 |
Malton trainer Richard Fahey became the top trainer at York for the fourth year in a row after saddling three winners on the final day of the season. The highlight for the Musley Bank trainer was Kaldoun Kingdom's victory in the £40,000 Coral Sprint Trophy. Fahey told BBC York: "When I started training I went five years without a winner at York, I had about 16 seconds before I got a winner. "For me, York is the best racecourse in England, winning here is everything." He added: "We run a lot of horses here, the owners like coming here. "Every horse I have is a York horse. It's very tough to win here and we've been very lucky in the last four years. "Malton's a great place to train, we've our own gallops there at Musley Bank. It works well and the horses are happy there." Fahey is not the first Irish trainer to base himself in the Malton area and feels at home there. "People in Ireland are always asking me about Yorkshire, and it is very Irish over here, it's very green and very friendly," he said. "There's a big Irish community here, a lot of people have Irish heritage."
