Richard Fahey saddled more than 100 winners in 2008 |
Malton trainer Richard Fahey celebrated five winners in one day from his sickbed at Musley Bank on Saturday. Knot In Wood won the six-furlong Sky Bet Dash at York, while Fahey also took the Longines Handicap at Ascot and raked up three winners at Newcastle. "The horses are running out of their skins," said Fahey's assistant Robin O'Ryan, who suggested that Knot In Wood "could go for the Stewards' Cup." Fahey is recovering at home from a double hernia operation. Knot In Wood made a late charge to pip Barney McGrew, with apprentice rider Barry McHugh aboard. "Barry is a great lad to have in the yard and he deserves all of the plaudits," O'Ryan added. Fahey's winners at both York and Ascot were sent off at 9-1, and if Knot On Wood recovers well from York, he'll surely take his place in the John Smith's Scottish Stewards' Cup at Hamilton on Friday. The seven-year-old sprinter will be attempting to complete a hat-trick of wins in the six-furlong race.
