Fahey is Yorkshire's top trainer

Richard Fahey has been named as the most successful flat trainer in Yorkshire for the second successive year by the Go Racing group.

The Malton-based trainer had 42 winners in the county during a season which saw him achieve more than 100 winners for the first time.

Fahey told BBC Radio York: "It's a milestone. It's something in the back of your mind.

"We've had 107 winners since March so you feel that's an achievement."

He added: "It's something you can aim at. But it feels great. It's a lot of winners.

"We did 97 last year in the turf season so we were close to the mark. In the whole year we trained over 100 so we actually had got there but this is 100. "

Fahey started training in 1993 but admits the current economic climate has had an effect on him.

"We'll be a little bit down on numbers next year. The modern climate is effecting us a little bit but we've over 100 boxes now and hopefully we'll fill them for the next flat season.

"I train for a lot of Irish clients and I just feel a lot of them haven't purchased horses this year so we will be down on numbers. But we'll fill the boxes with something," he said.
