Malton trainer Richard Fahey has won the John Smiths Cup at York racecourse for the second consecutive year. Flying Clarets (12-1) which was ridden by Freddy Tylicki won by a length and three quarters from Eradicate. York's marketing manager James Brennan told BBC Radio York it had been a good meeting for Yorkshire trainers. "Four from six races on Friday went the way of Yorkshire trainers which was a pretty good return and on Saturday five from seven [winners] stayed in Malton." Mick Easterby, Tim Easterby and John Quinn all recorded winners on Saturday. | The smile on Richard's face was great to see | And Brennan said Fahey's back-to-back winners in the John Smiths Cup was quite an achievement. "Richard Fahey goes from strength to strength at York, he's been our leading trainer for the last two seasons. "He won the 48th running of the John Smiths Cup with Charlie Tokyo and he won the 49th running as well with a marvellous battling performance by Flying Claret, the smile on Richard's face was great to see." Fahey said after the race: "This and the Ayr Gold Cup are the races I want to win, so I'll try and win up at Ayr again now."
