Vikings won their third consecutive Isle of Man title in 2009 |
Vikings ladies beat Oldham 4-1 at Failsworth School on Sunday to reach the semi-finals of the England Hockey Women's Vase. The Isle of Man champions will now face last year's winners East Grinstead in the last four on 28 March. Viking's Deborah Shimmin said: "It was a fantastic win for the club and we will be ready for East Grinstead." The winner of the semi-final will face either Worthing Ladies or Oxted Ladies in the final on the 17 April. Viking's captain Kim Carney gave her side the lead from a short corner before Louise Howard levelled for Oldham, who are currently second in the Greater Manchester Division One. In the second-half Carney scored two goals in four minutes to complete her hat-trick and give the Manx side a 3-1 lead. Katherine Gatherer added a fourth late on to confirm their semi-final place. The Manx club qualified for the competition after winning the Isle of Man's Ladies Premier league. The Women's Vase has been running since the 2000/01 season and is a straight knockout competition.
