Bichard took silver in the 5km time trial

Jamie Bichard won a silver medal in the 5km time trial at the Special Olympics in Leicester on Tuesday.

The Guernsey cyclist fought through difficult conditions of wind and rain in three days of qualifying on the flat oval track at Abbey Park.

Bichard qualified for the top division with only 17 seconds separating riders' times in his group.

Facing a stiff head wind on the back straight Jamie finished in a time of 10 minutes and six seconds to take second.

Bichard has two more events to go, the 5km road race and 1km time trial, and is hopeful of further medals.
