Weir is now preparing for the World Championships in Osaka |
Britain's David Weir emerged victorious in the 1500m wheelchair race at Friday's Norwich Union London Grand Prix at Crystal Palace. Weir held off the challenge of Frenchman Julien Casoli to win in a time of three minutes 23.29 seconds.
The 28-year-old, who set the world record over the distance last month, took the lead from fellow Briton Brian Alldis in the final lap.
Although Casoli tried to get past, the Briton held on for the win.
The victory is a confidence boost for Weir who will be racing over the same distance in a race at the World Championships in Osaka later this month.
Casoli led from the start before moving aside after 200m to leave Weir in front, but Alldis took over soon after to push the pace on.
But once Weir took over again at the bell, Alldis faded and finished down the field in seventh.
"I was nervous at the start line because this was my first race since the ones I did in America last month which went very well," Weir told BBC Sport.
"I've been tired since then so now I just need to prepare slowly and steadily and build up my body ahead of Osaka."
