Woods has enjoyed plenty of success this year |
Wheelchair racer Shelly Woods claimed her second British record of the month on her way to winning the Long Island New York 10km race on Sunday. The Blackpool athlete, who set a new record in the marathon in Switzerland two weeks ago, out-sprinted Canadian Diane Roy to take victory.
Her time of 24 minutes dead beats Dame Tanni Grey Thompson's previous best of 24 minutes and three seconds.
Dave Weir finished second to Australian Kurt Fearnley in the men's race.
Woods and Weir, along with fellow British racers Brian Alldis and Anne Wafula-Strike, will now compete in the World Road 5km Championships at Cedar Town in Atlanta this week.
